Bogie Louvered Wagon BLCT 31073

The A.E.Goodwin Coy.,
of New South Wales were only successful in obtaining one order for rolling
stock from the Queensland Railways. This was for 200 bogie louvered wagons,
numbered 30942 - 31141, built to design number 6252 and delivered between
March 1956 and March 1958. This also, was the first louvered type vehicle
of all steel construction to run on the QR system. Although delivered with
draw hook type couplings they were later fitted with a automatic type and
reclassified BLCT. Our example, 31073, entered service during August 1958.
Being available for passenger trains these vehicles were often seen on
Air-Conditioned trains but were more popular in the northern fruit express
247D which used to depart Roma Street Yards each day Monday to Friday almost
wholly made up of this type of wagon. With the introduction of more
modern stock, the BLCT class were relegated to secondary duties with quite
a few being allocated to various maintenance gangs. In July 1993, 31073
arrived at QPSR for use at Swanbank. It was written off books by
the Queensland Railways during September 1994.
