Second Class Centre Aisle Suburban Carriage Number 454

Originally a Second Class Centre Aisle Suburban Carriage, drawing 2272, this vehicle was one of an order for six (449 -454) out shopped from Ipswich Railway Workshops between June 1903 and June 1904. No.454 entered service during, June 1904 and remained in suburban service until July 1914, when its interior was drastically altered to drawing Sk 13-187, to enable it to be used on Kuranda Tourist trains. It continued in this service until October 1931 when it was rebuilt to its present condition. It was finally written off books during March 1983.
