Prison Car Number 773

Built at the Ipswich Railway Workshops as a Second Class Lavatory Carriage, drawing 2213, in October 1913,this was one of a series of twenty similar vehicles constructed between June and October of that year. Rebuilt to drawing SC 284 in August 1936, it was then reclassified First Class, which it remained until April 1963, when it was once again demoted to Second Class. January 1965 saw it emerge with a modified interior and classified as a Prison Car. After being used to transport criminals between Townsville and Brisbane, it returned to shops during December 1976 and was modified to its present interior to conform with drawing SC 823. It remained in service as a Prison Car until written off in February 1987.
