This unit was built by
the Ipswich Railway Shops to drawings 5120 (Car) and 5147 (Trailer) for
the Department of Health and Home Affairs, School Health Scheme in August
1945. The car, which is 52ft.6in long, 9ft.Oin. wide and 12ft.1in. high
(16002 X 2743 X 36S3mm) is carried on pressed steel bogies with Sin. by
4in. (203 X 102) journals and fitted with 3ft.Oin. (915) wheels. The interior
houses two toilets, two showers, one single and one double berth cabins,
a kitchen and dining area, a small waiting room and two fully equipped
dental surgeries.
The trailer is smaller with a 32ft.Oin. long. 9ft.Oin. wide and 12ft.1in.high
(9754 X 2743 X 36S3mm) body carried on angle iron bogies fitted with 8in.
by 4in. (203 X 102) journals and 2ft.2in. (610) wheels. The interior carries
a Lister lighting and power plant, a work bench, and has a garage for a
small panel van. To allow entry and exit for the panel van one end is fitted
with large double doors.
The two vehicles were given a complete
upgrade of equipment during January 1970 then continued to serve the outback
areas of Queensland until presented to Pioneer in September 1984.
