Composite Lavatory Brake van Number 199

Built to drawing 234, this carriage was constructed by the Maryborough firm of
G. & E. Negus in November 1883 as a Composite Brake Van. Originally
fitted with a lantern roof, the car was completely rebuilt to drawing 694
in November 1918. This included the fitting of toilets, and a more common
arched style roof. As rebuilt the vehicle was classified as a Composite
Lavatory Brake van until November 1979, when it was down graded to Second
Class. It continued in service until March 1983, not quite attaining a
hundred years of life before being written off.
